Roscoe Mitchell and Mats Gustaffson recording session

In March 2024, Swedish reed doubler Mats Gustafsson and his long-time friend and producer John Corbett travelled to Madison, Wisconsin, to meet Roscoe Mitchell, fellow saxophonist and founding member of the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago, who is also a prolific visual artist in his spare time.

The two musicians decided to meet at Audio of the Arts Studios for a session recorded by Buzz Kemper and supervised by John Corbett. A selection of these exceptional recordings will be released on vinyl in 2025.

In this context, it is worth remembering that Mats Gustafsson has already made duo recordings for our label in 2023 with Wadada Leo Smith, another legendary figure of creative music. A triple record will be released this autumn under the title Amazing Graze.
