Andrea Neumann and Sophie Agnel recording in Basel

Ni Vu Ni Connu is launching a new series of recordings with the Berlin-based musician and composer Andrea Neumann.

Since the 1990s, Andrea has been one of the driving forces in Berlin’s independent music scene and has played a key role in the emergence and ongoing development of so-called Echtzeitmusik. She is currently a lecturer in Open Creation at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel.

Andrea plays a self-designed inside piano, a stringed aluminium frame prepared with everyday objects and amplified with the help of a mixing console and a variety of pick-ups.

To kick off the new series, Andrea invited French pianist Sophie Agnel for a duo recording session in Basel in late August. Sophie Agnel, who is an extremely versatile pianist, is best known for her approach to the prepared piano – as can be heard on our label on the album la pierre tachée (nvnc-lp025) in a duo with the British saxophonist John Butcher.

The recordings at Studio Idee und Klang were made by Josua Dillier under the direction of Mikael Szafirowski.

We are very much looking forward to collaborating with Andrea to produce a collection which will unfold at irregular intervals and with different formations over the next two years.
