Matthew Bourne, recipient of the Perrier Young Jazz Award 2001, BBC Radio Jazz Award for Innovation 2002 and International Jazz Festivals Organization Award 2005, has been commissioned to write pieces for Bath International Music Festival, London Jazz Festival, Leeds Fuse Festival and for pianist Joanna MacGregor. Acclaimed for his imaginative deployment of samples and synthesizer as well as his dynamic piano playing, Bourne performs in numerous groups including The Electric Dr M, Distortion Trio, Bourne Davis Kane, Metropolis, Bilbao Syndrome and Sharkestra. He leads the recently formed quartet Billy Moon, featuring cellist Semay Wu, violinist Olivia Moore and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Seaming To. Past collaborators have included Marc Ducret, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Barre Phillips, Paul Dunmall and Tony Bevan. Bourne is a member of LIMA (Leeds Improvised Music Association) and currently teaches at Leeds College of Music, where he took BA and MMus degrees before completing a PhD at Leeds University.
